Mr Harper today visited the GREAN project in Golspie to attend the AGM and celebrate the latest expansion of their services. GREAN (Golspie Recycling and Environmental Action Network) provides a kerbside recycling service for 625 households in Golspie – but that service will now extend to a total of 3000 households in South, East and Central Sutherland.
Robin Harper MSP said, “Every small town in Scotland should have a recycling initiative like GREAN. Local authorities must wake up to the huge possibilities of small scale community recycling, and the contribution that it could make to us becoming a zero waste society. Greens would like to see all councils in Scotland follow this example. If the Scottish Executive wants examples of how doing a little can change a lot they need look no further than Golspie and GREAN for their inspiration.”
GREAN is contracted to the Highland Council through the strategic waste fund.
